Frequently Asked Questions heat pump cleaning mini split cleaning heat pump

  •   Dirty Filter/Coils/Blower Wheel:  When running your unit on AC/Dry mode, if your indoor unit filter/coil/blower wheel are dirty, the unit is unable to maintain/create adequate air flow to dry out the indoor unit coil which can lead to increase condensation and even icing on the indoor coil.  A heat pump deep cleaning includes the cleaning of the filter, coil and blower wheel.
  • Clogged Condensation Line:  When running your unit on AC/Dry mode, the unit will create condensation/water (which is normal), if the condensation line was not installed properly, it is possible that the condensation line has a low point which never fully drains and in time (months) it turns into a jelly like substance which can create a blockage.  If possible, we will show you how to manage your condensation line and how to unclog it as part of your deep cleaning. A heat pump deep cleaning includes the unclogging of the condensation line.
  • Exposed Gaz/Copper Line: When running AC/Dry mode, the compressor unit from the outside send sub zero Celsius Gaz to the indoor unit via a copper line. If the indoor Gaz/Copper line is not 100% insulated, during really hot days, it will lead to condensation around the indoor copper line which can leak on your wall.  If possible we will show you where the exposed copper line is and provide suggestions on what to do to fix it.
  • Damaged Unit: It is possible that your unit has damage that will require your to contact your heat pump installation technician, as these may be covered under your warranty work which has to be serviced by your installer.
  • Other Possible Reason:
    • In some cases, the indoor unit is too small for your home, and just cannot produce enough temperature differential to keep yo35C+ outside, you may need to set your indoor unit at a higher temperature such as 25C.

  • Dirty Filter/Dirty Blower Wheel/Dirty Evaporator Coil: When running your unit on AC/Dry mode, if your indoor unit filter/blower wheel/evaporator coil is dirty, the unit is unable to maintain/create adequate air flow to cool off your home like it used to.  A deep cleaning of the evaporator coil, blower wheel and filter will help create maximum air flow.
  • Damaged Unit: It is possible that your unit has damage that will require your to contact your heat pump installation technician, as these may be covered under your warranty work which has to be serviced by your installer.
  • Other Possible Reasons:
    • Make sure all your windows are closed, as any open window will simply become counter productive to cooling off your home.
    • In some cases, the indoor unit is too small for your home, and just cannot produce enough temperature differential to keep your home cool.  The solution maybe to adjust the temperature setting to something a little higher.  i.e. When it is 25 Celsius outside, you can get away with setting your indoor unit at 20C, however when it is 35C+ outside, you may need to set your indoor unit at 25C.

Most manufacturers now recommends a deep cleaning every year. The Indoor unit does not bring fresh air into your home and all the dust, pollen, odors, cooking steam, candles, etc. gets trapped inside the machine.

When possible we will remove the plastic casting from the unit.  Next we will spray the coil, blower wheel and drain pan with an approved based solution.   Next we will use our battery operated pressure washer to flush everything out of the unit, some of the dirt will go outside and the rest will be collected in our plastic funnel.   For the plastic casting and the filters, we will use a mild degreaser and wash all in a tub.   It takes approx 45minutes to an hour per indoor unit.

As soon as we completed the deep clean you can turn your unit one and this will also help to dry out the unit.

You can absolutely watch and ask questions.  It is actually encouraged.
